J and J Woodables wood we use
PLEASE NOTE:
J and J Woodables wood products are made from 100% solid wood! They are not made from Plywood as others you may have seen elsewhere.
Poplar
J and J Woodables wood puzzles, clocks and wall hangers and custom commissioned work are made from Poplar, also known as Liriodendron tulipifera, Yellow poplar or tulip wood! 
The heartwood (grain) of Poplar varies from pale yellowish-brown to olive green with some exhibiting red and purple hues.
All wood color hues will fade over time and when exposed to light. The color hues in the heartwood will tend to darken on exposure to light and turn brown over time. To extend the life of the color hues, we use a Spar Urethane finish on our custom outdoor wall hangers.
Our puzzles unless otherwise requested, are finished with an acrylic clear coat. Some products may be finished with Shellac, a natural wood finish and non-toxic in its pure form and is UV-resistant.
Basswood
We make our children’s puzzles from Basswood, also known as Tilia americana or Linden!
The sapwood of basswood is usually creamy white in color.
Our children’s puzzles are NOT finished which enables the child to paint, stain or color them as they please.
We recommend using water colors, food dyes or other non-toxic coloring additives for our children’s puzzles.
